$ex Workers Flee As Police Taskforce Storm Popular Brothel At Koforidua

A joint security operation team led by Isaac Appaw Gyasi, Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben South, stormed brothels in Koforidua on Thursday.

The Little Ben brothel, Bula Spot Pub and brothel, Rumors, and Kofcity Pub were all raided by a joint security force comprised of police, military, immigration, fire service, and the National Investigation Bureau (NIB).

The process of fact-finding was designed to alert security personnel to illegal activities taking place in the facilities.

According to Isaac Appaw-Gyasi, MCE for New Juaben South, the proprietors of the facilities have been instructed to appear before the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) today, Friday, June 30, 2022, with the operation permission and any other necessary documentation.

Meanwhile, a few suspects were apprehended at a “rumor facility” while producing a large quantity of dried leaves for their customers that were mistaken for Indian hemp.

They were immediately apprehended and held at the Central Police Station until they could be taken to court.

The security measures were implemented in response to a Starr News investigation that revealed young female Nigerians, including minors, were being trafficked to Koforidua, Ghana’s capital of the Eastern Region, for sexual exploitation. This was accomplished through a plot involving some Ghanaians and Nigerians.

The Bula Spot and the Little Ben neighborhood are two well-known brothels used by traffickers to shelter their victims in Koforidua.

Meanwhile, a delegation from the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana visited Koforidua to meet with the Eastern Regional Police Command and the Nigeria Association in the area to discuss the situation.

The team came across Ibrahim Amevor, a good Samaritan who had saved a sex trafficker who had become pregnant, HIV-positive, and had been kicked out of the brothel.

On April 30, 2022, the victim, who suffers from psychosis, gave birth.

The Nigeria High Commission has begun the procedures to facilitate her return.
