Ghanaians on the microblogging platform, Twitter have launched an online campaign for the removal of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare following the numerous crimes recorded in the country ever since he assumed office.
The citizens of Ghana have expressed their worries over the recent woes and killings recorded in the country which the Ghana Police Service has failed to ensure calmness and bring the culprits to book.
These campaigners believe that the actions of IGP, Dampare before he assumed office as the head of the Ghana Police Service were just a nine-day wonder since he is now reluctant in discharging his duties effectively by bringing criminals to book.
Some of these campaigners have concluded that with Dr. Dampare at the apex in handling criminal affairs, the police service will not be able to discharge its duties effectively, hence he needs to be relieved of his duty.
Several incidents were cited by these campaigners including the killing of a young man who police claim was an armed robber during the clash between the police and the youth of Nkoranza.
